What ACEs Look Like in Our Community

Just like a redwood tree’s illness shows up in its needles, withering or discoloring as a sign of underlying issues in its roots or environment, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) manifest in a community through various visible signs of struggle. These signs might include higher rates of violence, mental health issues, substance abuse, and educational challenges.  Just as a redwood needs healthy soil and proper care to thrive, a community must nurture its roots by providing support, resources, and positive environments to heal from ACEs and grow stronger, helping its members build resilience for the future.
